Lytton Ferry Update

Attention: Assignment Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor, World News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor LYTTON, BC, PRESS RELEASE--(Marketwire - July 13, 2007) - Lytton First Nation is deeply disappointed that the Provincial Government saw fit to send junior ministerial officials to address the growing crisis in Lytton, B.C.

The junior government official's presentation to the community only served to shift the safety concerns from the CN Railway Bridge to an ill conceived plan to restore the full-service operating of the Lytton Ferry by way of VSA Highway Maintenance management staff undertaking a one day training course to operate the ferry on a full time basis.

Chief Byron Spinks stated "this offer is unacceptable as it continues to jeopardize the safety and well being of our community members".

"We shall continue to press for a meeting with the Minister(s) of Highways, Aboriginal Affairs and Labour. In the meantime, we shall continue with our community-driven campaign to achieve a safe professionally operated full-time ferry service"
