NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - Jul 9, 2012) - Stroz Friedberg, a global digital risk management and investigations firm, announced that M. Scott Peeler has been named Managing Director and will lead the new Compliance Division within the Business Intelligence & Investigations practice based out of New York City.
Stroz Friedberg's Compliance Division will help clients understand and successfully manage the complexities of heavily enforced laws and regulations that impact a broad range of industries around the globe such as the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and the UK Bribery Act. The new Compliance services will also play a significant role in Stroz Friedberg's "life cycle" approach in assisting clients not only with the detection, research and resolution of issues, but also with prevention.
Mr. Peeler joins the firm from Chadbourne & Parke LLP, where he served as a partner in the Commercial Litigation Department and a member of its White Collar Defense, Regulatory Investigations and Litigation group. During his tenure, Mr. Peeler led multiple Fortune 50, 100 and 500 companies in the development and implementation of anti-corruption compliance programs tailored to meet and exceed relevant industry and legal standards. He is widely considered an expert on anti-corruption, speaking to thousands of people around the globe each year, and has successfully led multiple internal investigations and compliance projects for some of the largest and most profitable companies in the world. Mr. Peeler also developed a suite of desktop and mobile applications that enable a wide range of employees and agents in the field to have all relevant policies, procedures and compliance resources at their fingertips. These applications will be adapted for use by clients of Stroz Friedberg.
"With the surge in enforcement activity related to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, the UK Bribery Act, as well as those related to Sarbanes-Oxley, companies need to understand the importance of taking preventative measures to mitigate risk," said Edward M. Stroz, Co-President of Stroz Friedberg. "As the author of 'gold-standard' global anti-corruption policies for many international Fortune 500 companies, Scott is ideally-suited to advise our clients about the risks and intricacies of such laws and assist in the development of measures to reduce the risk of potential issues."
Mr. Peeler served as an Assistant District Attorney for New York County under former District Attorney Robert Morgenthau, where he prosecuted major felonies, including economic fraud, coercion and narcotics trafficking. Mr. Peeler has successfully tried numerous state and federal jury trials and has experience directing large-scale government investigations and litigation relating to bribery, official corruption, health care fraud and abuse, money laundering, anti-counterfeiting, tax violations, commercial bribery, export violations, fraud and securities violations.
Serving on both the New York State Bar Association's and Chief Judge of the New York Court of Appeals Jonathan Lippman's Wrongful Conviction Task Force, Mr. Peeler is also a tireless advocate fighting to end wrongful convictions in New York State.
