M86 Security Announces Latest Version of Award-Winning Web Filtering and Reporting Solutions

M86 Web Filtering and Reporting Suite 4.2 Offers User-Level Tablet Device Filtering, Enhanced Reporting and Simplified Features

IRVINE, CA--(Marketwire - Dec 5, 2011) - M86 Security, the global expert in real-time Web and email threat protection, today announced version 4.2 of its award-winning M86 Web Filtering and Reporting (WFR) Suite. This version includes several enhancements, including: additional user identification and activity monitoring for all tablet devices, reporting improvements, customizable time limits for user access, and convenient access to future limited availability releases of the product.

With the latest release of the M86 WFR 4.2, M86 Security gives educational institutions and other organizations the critical ability to filter all mobile tablet devices running on Android or iOS operating systems while on-premises. As schools across the U.S. distribute these tablets to their students, districts need to ensure that their Web filtering solutions can authenticate, monitor and report Internet activities of all on-premises tablet users down to the user level, even if the tablets are personally-owned devices students bring into the schools. The M86 WFR 4.2 provides this capability, helping schools enforce regulatory compliance and maintain productivity, while introducing new tools on their networks without compromising filtering capabilities.

"Educators recognize the value of using today's technologies in the classroom. By deploying devices such as mobile tablets, schools can enhance learning and engage a generation of students who have grown up using mobile technologies. This is essential for preparing students for the workplace," explains Jim Culbert, information security manager, Duval County Public Schools. "However, along with these devices comes the need to ensure teacher and student safety and adhere to CIPA regulations. To do this, school districts must be able to authenticate and monitor Internet activities all the way to the user level, instead of the generic IP address."

Key enhancements to the M86 WFR 4.2 include:

  • Tablet User Identification and Activity Monitoring
Schools and other organizations that have tablets running on Android or iOS operating systems will be able to filter on-premises activities by a user's LDAP profile. This enables organizations to know who is using the tablet, rather than a generic IP address.

  • Customized Time Settings in Web-based Authentication
Custom time limits for Web access can be assigned by user group or IP group, rather than just setting one universal time for all users. This enables schools and other organizations to be more flexible about when and for how long various users can access the Web.

  • Increased On-box Reporting Functionality
Schools and other organizations can now receive detailed, drill-down security reports, additional reporting templates and increased consistency between security, productivity and other reporting types, which are many of the same features offered in the M86 Security Reporter.

  • Convenient Access to Limited Availability Releases and Appliance Serial Numbers
Customers will be able to participate in future limited availability releases without needing assistance from M86 Security. This enables them to take advantage of new product features prior to the GA release. Furthermore, they will be able to quickly access appliance serial numbers from the user interface and LCD panel, making it easier for them to provide this information to their M86 Security account managers and technical support engineers quickly.

"M86 Security is committed to helping our education customers provide a safe learning environment for their students and teachers," said Werner Thalmeier, vice president of product management, M86 Security. "We implemented the latest enhancements to the M86 WFR to help schools and districts leverage the latest mobile technologies without risking compliance or safety. We also wanted to refine the product's functionality to make it even easier to use."

The M86 WFR 4.2 enhancements will be available on December 5, 2011.
