M86 Security Receives 2011 Frost & Sullivan Product Line Strategy of the Year Award for Content Filtering

In Honor of Its Market Leadership and Innovation, Company Will Receive Prestigious Award During a Special Ceremony at the Westin New Orleans Canal Place in New Orleans, LA, on Wednesday, Feb. 9

ORANGE, CA--(Marketwire - January 24, 2011) - As the Internet threat environment continues to grow in size and sophistication, M86 Security, the global expert in real-time Web and email threat protection, has been recognized with the 2011 Frost & Sullivan Product Line Strategy of the Year Award for Content Filtering for aggressively helping businesses combat emerging Internet threats.

M86 Security landed the accolade due to its hybrid security solutions approach, including an appliance and a cloud-based service that provides Web content filtering to remote workers when they are not on the corporate network. In announcing the award, Frost & Sullivan's Martha Vazquez, Research Analyst, notes that "M86 understands the increasing challenges created by the dramatic rise in phishing websites that cause the spread of malware. The emergence of Web 2.0 capabilities as well as the use of social networking media has meant that cyber-criminals can harvest more personal information to use in the distribution of malware."

"With the double punch of Web and email threats causing malicious system attacks, more and more businesses are aggressively seeking best-practice solutions, such as what M86 offers, by which to protect their networks," says Vazquez.

Additionally, Vazquez explains, security vendors are increasingly looking to create and implement innovative, advanced technologies against the newest Web and email threats, particularly as the number of remote workers grows exponentially.

"This acknowledgement of M86 by Frost & Sullivan is pure validation of our business promise to our customers," says William Kilmer, chief marketing officer, M86 Security. "We continually raise the bar on ourselves in challenging our team to stay ahead of the market need. Our customers find our strategy for a hybrid environment very attractive, as it allows them to maximize security protection by combining an on premise with a cloud deployment. This best-practice approach also appeals as it allows organizations to evolve their security strategy based on a hybrid deployment before making the decision to go into the cloud entirely."

The Product Line Strategy Award was based on five criteria used to benchmark M86 Security's performance versus key competitors: breadth of product line, size of addressable customer base, impact on customer value, impact on market share, and breadth of applications/markets served.

Frost & Sullivan utilized a tailored blind Decision Support Matrix (DSM) to compare company solution performances with weighted rankings specific to each criterion. The DSM features criteria unique to each award category and ranks importance by assigning weights to each criterion. For the "breadth of product line" criterion, M86 was recognized for the M86 Secure Web Gateway as an appliance or in combination with a cloud service as a hybrid deployment with the M86 Secure Web Service Hybrid product, along with M86 WebMarshal as a secure Web gateway software solution. Rounding out its product offering is M86's email security solution -- M86 MailMarshal SMTP.

Citing as an example for the "size of customer base" criterion, the Frost & Sullivan award notes that the M86 solutions address the market need for real-time Web threat protection for onsite and mobile users, while also addressing administrators' challenges to do more with fewer resources while maintaining demanding, mission-critical project deadlines. Also growing is the enterprise demand for secure access to social network sites for its workers.

From the standpoint of providing "customer value," the M86 Dynamic Web Repair™ technology was recognized by Frost & Sullivan for seamlessly eliminating malicious code from Web content, without blocking the Web page. Subsequently, it repairs content and securely returns it to the user, thereby maintaining productivity and reducing downtime.

Finally, M86's "share of market" has grown, notes the Frost & Sullivan report, both by acquisition of a number of global market leaders and their technologies, as well as their customers worldwide. The M86 solutions help manage security needs in a wide array of markets in which security is paramount, including financial, healthcare and government. The company regularly reviews and secures customer feedback during the sales cycle and from a number of customer appreciation events.
