Machinists to Protest Maintenance Job Loss at Air Canada!

MEDIA ADVISORY

Attention: Assignment Editor, Business/Financial Editor, News Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor, Transportation Editor VANCOUVER BC--(Marketwire - March 15, 2011) - Vancouver BC - Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, employed by Air Canada will stage a public awareness protest across the country Wednesday. The Machinists want to raise public awareness of the permanent potential loss of Aircraft Heavy Maintenance Overhaul Jobs at Air Canada due to the sale of Air Canada's Heavy Maintenance division to Aveos Inc.

Aveos is also an owner of aircraft overhaul company in El Salvador named Aeroman. The Machinists fear that Aveos will send Air Canada aircraft to be overhauled at Aeroman, which has the potential to eliminate thousands of highly skilled well-paid jobs in Canada. The protest is to raise awareness of this issue with the public and the federal politicians. The protest will be held in Vancouver, Winnipeg, Toronto and Montreal.
