MADD Canada Joins Boating Specialists To Promote Safety on the Water

North American Safe Boating Awareness Week Kick-off Takes Place on May 15

Attention: Assignment Editor, City Editor, News Editor OAKVILLE, ONTARIO, MEDIA ADVISORY--(Marketwire - May 13, 2009) - MADD Canada will join the Canadian Safe Boating Council (CSBC) and other boating safety specialists to kick-off North American Safe Boating Awareness Week at Nathan Phillips Square in Toronto on Friday, May 15.

As part of the event, CSBC, Fish'n Canada host Angelo Viola and MADD Canada will offer an impairment simulation whereby the public and media can test their casting ability while wearing 'fatal vision goggles' which give the effect of being virtually impaired.

Other photo opportunities and interactive demonstrations at Friday's launch will include a Cold Zone demonstration of cold water immersions and a Life Jacket fitting zone. Participating organizations include: Transport Canada Marine Safety, Canadian Coast Guard, Lifesaving Society, Cold Water Boot Camp, OPP, Metro Toronto Police Marine Unit, Ontario Chinese Anglers Association and many others.

Alcohol plays a significant role in boating deaths and drowning. Together with CSBC, MADD Canada is bringing its Campaign 911 message to the waterways to educate people about the dangers of impaired boating and encourage them to call 911 if they see a boater they suspect is impaired.
