Magic Hat Brewing Company Posts Mid-Year Numbers

As Craft Beers Set the Pace for the Industry, Magic Hat Continues to Outpace Crafts

SOUTH BURLINGTON, VT--(Marketwire - August 23, 2007) - The Brewers Association has reported that craft beer sales continue to be the most robust sector of the beer industry, now exceeding a 5 percent dollar share of total beer sales. With the industry healthier than ever, the release of mid-year sales figures by Magic Hat Brewing Company shows that the Vermont brewery has outpaced industry benchmarks once again.

The volume of craft beer sold in the first half of 2007 rose 11% compared to this same period in 2006 and dollar growth increased 14%. Magic Hat posted a 33% total sales increase compared to the same period in 2006.

Data from Information Resources, Inc. (IRI) confirms the strength of craft beers, showing a 17% increase in grocery store dollar sales over 2006, higher than any other alcoholic beverage category. Magic Hat outperformed the industry four-fold, charting 73% growth in food stores. In fact, Magic Hat gained +0.3 share points in the craft category during the first six months of 2007.

"While we are pleased with our overall production figures, we are particularly happy with the successes that each of our individual brands are having," says Magic Hat CEO Martin Kelly. "Through June 2007, our flagship beer #9 posted a 32% increase in retail shipments, and our SeasonAles, which participate in the second largest style in the craft category, were up 62%."

These increases, along with the 70% increase in Circus Boy ("The Hefeweizen") and the 59% increase in Variety 12-pack shipments to retail, have allowed Magic Hat to flourish in new and distant markets including Michigan and Ohio to the West and Virginia and North Carolina to the South.
