Magnum Semiconductor DXTPro Encoders Enable 1080p50/60 Premium Broadcast Services Over Existing Broadcast Channels

The DXTPro Encoders Optimize Monetization of Existing Broadcast Channels Through H.264 1080p50/60 Encoding at Traditional 1080i50/60 Bit Rates

MILPITAS, CA--(Marketwire - September 9, 2009) - Magnum Semiconductor, the leader in professional-grade compression processors, will be demonstrating AVC coding of 1080p50/60 content at traditional 1080i50/60 bit rates at the IBC 2009 show in Amsterdam. Its DXTPro processors achieve this feat through the use of four powerful cores in a two chipset configuration. The DXTPro is based on a scalable and flexible multi-core architecture, which delivers uncompromising video quality, highest channel-density and lowest bit rates. Multi-format support includes SD, HD and full HD at 1920x1080 at 50/60 frames/sec. The programmable architecture further supports multiple encoding standards, such as H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 (AVC), MPEG-2 and VC-1, as well as multiple functions, such as encoding, transcoding and decoding. Magnum end-to-end, top quality progressive encoding, decoding solutions allow increased quality across the contribution and distribution broadcast chain.

"With support for 1080p50/60 encoding and decoding at traditional 1080i bit rates, Magnum brings consumers razor sharp sports and other footage, while broadcasters are enabled to further monetize existing broadcast channels through premium programming," said Gal Garniek, VP Marketing and Sales at Magnum Semiconductor.

"The availability of solutions that enable broadcasters to cost-effectively use existing broadcast transmission channels to deliver 1080p50 content is a significant step forward in meeting the consumer's expectations for the next level of HDTV experience, and provides the necessary impetus for further growth in the broadcast industry," said Dr. Hans Hoffmann, Program Manager at the European Broadcasting Union (EBU)
