MailChimp Launches First Automatically Generated Mobile-Friendly Email Campaigns

New Feature Extends Campaign Reach and Improves Convenience for Marketers

ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwire - November 18, 2008) - Email service provider MailChimp today announced the release of its mobile-friendly display feature for email campaigns, which allows users to tailor campaigns based on how they will be read in mobile devices such as iPhones and Android-enabled smartphones. The service is currently available for the web display version of an email campaign, and is the first of its kind within the email marketing community.

Many mobile devices limit the display of graphic elements as well as HTML formatting, which can be problematic for viewing email campaigns. MailChimp's service sniffs out the reader agent, and if it is identified as a mobile device, will reformat the email via Google's mobile transition utility. This function, which is also the format translation backbone for the Google Reader app, strips the campaign of images and other HTML formatting that may interfere with viewing/reading the campaign in form-limited mobile devices.
