Major Expansion Planned for Bathurst Regional Airport Thanks to Government Funding

BATHURST, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwired - Aug. 16, 2016) - The governments of Canada and New Brunswick are committed to supporting Atlantic and Canadian businesses and building a vibrant economic future by growing the middle class and addressing regional challenges. This is why the federal and provincial governments are providing more than $4.19 million in funding to expand the Bathurst Regional Airport.

The funding was announced today by Serge Cormier, Member of Parliament for Acadie-Bathurst, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, and the Honourable Brian Gallant, Premier of New Brunswick. Also in attendance was Colin Brewster, President of the Northern New Brunswick Airport Authority Inc.

The expansion project will double the size of the airport's terminal building and extend the runway to nearly 1800 metres. This will help accommodate larger aircraft, process passengers more efficiently, and provide the more-than-50,000 travellers who use the airport annually with more current amenities. Once complete, the work will also encourage business from new partners, promoting economic development in the region as a whole.

The governments of Canada and New Brunswick are each contributing up to $2,095,108 to this project through the Provincial−Territorial Infrastructure Component (National and Regional Projects)of the New Building Canada Fund, representing two-thirds of the estimated $6.28 million total project cost. The Northern New Brunswick Airport Authority will cover the remaining costs.
