Major Funding for Electronic Medical Record in Upcoming Federal Budget

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 23, 2006) -

Hospitals to receive significant financial support from Federal Gov't

VisualMED Clinical Solutions Corp. (OTCBB:VMCS). United States President George Bush is expected to set aside hundreds of millions in the upcoming federal budget in February to fund large-scale adoption of electronic medical records. The effort is a continuation of the administration's commitment to achieve the computerization of U.S. medical records without further delay.

Although Congress has proven slow to establish EMR standards and funding, reasonable estimates conclude that electronic medical records could reduce healthcare costs by $140 billion, while saving tens of thousands of lives, according to a report released by then HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson in 2004. Since that report, healthcare spending has continued to escalate.

According to the New York Sun, Dr. David Brailer, current National Coordinator for Healthcare Information Technology, declared that "were are ready to step up in 2006 for a pretty aggressive campaign." The Bush administration is set to reveal breakthrough information technology initiatives later this month, including an awareness campaign about the need for healthcare IT reform targeting the American public.

These specific measures are very positive for VisualMED's outlook in 2006. The company expects an acceleration in the adoption rate of its technology as the Federal budget increases the purchasing power of American hospitals and healthcare facilities.
