Major Utility Alerts Crews Safely and Speeds Communications

Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative Provides Service Warnings With TextPower AlertDispatcher™

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CA and BASTROP, TX--(Marketwired - Feb 27, 2014) - TextPower, a leader in innovative text messaging software solutions, today announced that Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative, an electric utility cooperative headquartered in Bastrop, TX, has deployed the TextPower AlertDispatcher for SMS alerting of potential service warnings across the organization.

Founded in 1939, Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative is one of Texas' oldest electric cooperatives. Bluebonnet currently serves over 80,000 meters within 14 southeastern Texas counties.

The TextPower AlertDispatcher system is being used to manage alert level changes to Bluebonnet employees both internal, and out in the field, should a weather pattern predict a severe storm that could cause damage to the power infrastructure.

With AlertDispatcher, Bluebonnet experiences heightened safety for workers who are out in the field by eliminating the need for two-way radio systems, which can be difficult to use when personnel are working on power lines. Additionally, clarity of messages is no longer an issue. Alerts are delivered in easy to read and clear text, so those in the field no longer face the difficulty of hearing and deciphering distorted verbal messages during severe weather conditions.

"The reasons that we chose TextPower were based on the effectiveness of the solution, coupled with the simplicity of use and deployment," said Ronnie Bludau, Operations Technology Superintendent at Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative. "Using previous solutions, we had to manually alert and keep track of numbers and carriers. With TextPower, all we needed was a number to add to the dispatch SMS group and it was automatically categorized. The flexibility of the solution made it extremely easy to use."

With seamless integration to employee mobile devices regardless of carrier, alerts are quickly delivered from the dispatcher in clear, traceable text messages. Since deployment, Bluebonnet has seen constant usage of the TextPower AlertDispatcher system, sending out three to four alerts on average, per month.

"Weather is highly unpredictable and a co-op such as Bluebonnet relies on our technology to keep their customers up and running," said Mark Nielsen, Executive Chairman and co-founder of TextPower. "AlertDispatcher serves as a great alternative to two-way radio communications with interactive text messaging in real-time. Even with the biggest of weather surprises, TextPower technology will always be on and reliable."

Bluebonnet is planning to incorporate more TextPower technology, including SMS alerting to its customers in the near future.
