Majority of IT Workers Seriously Considered Leaving Florida in the Past Year

Local IT Leader Calls Survey Results 'A Wake-Up Call'

FT. LAUDERDALE, FL -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 26, 2007 -- Ft. Lauderdale-based IT search and staffing specialist PROTECH (www.protechfl.com) released the results of its third annual survey of IT professionals and in which 52 percent of area information technology workers reported having seriously considered leaving the state of Florida in the past year. The survey of more than 7,000 technology professionals in Broward, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach had a 10.1 percent response rate and was conducted in March.

Highlights of the survey included:

--  Cost of living was most often cited as the reason for considering

--  87% of respondents said they would leave their current employer for a
    better opportunity -- an increase of 3% from 2006.
    
Salary Increases:
--  IT workers reported an average salary increase of 11% over the
    previous year -- (up from 9.6% in 2006)
    

"Technology professionals are feeling the squeeze of higher living costs combined with disproportionate increases in their incomes," said PROTECH CEO Deborah Vazquez. According to Vazquez, the firm has received an increased number requests for local compensation studies from employers worried about losing valuable IT workers.

Vazquez, who is also President of the South Florida Technology Alliance, noted that the area is home to about 160,000 technology professionals. According to recent studies, Florida's high-tech workers earn about 71% more than the state's average private sector wage and represent approximately $15.6 Billion in payroll.*
