Make Strides for Change with MADD Canada

MADD Canada Chapters and Community Leaders host annual walk-a-thon to raise funds and awareness for the fight to stop impaired driving.

Attention: City Editor, Lifestyle Editor, News Editor OAKVILLE, ONTARIO, MEDIA RELEASE--(Marketwire - May 6, 2009) - Communities across the country are stepping up their efforts to stop impaired driving with the MADD Canada Strides for Change walk-a-thon. The annual 5 km walk to raise funds and awareness is being held in various locations from May through October.

"We're inviting everyone to put on their walking shoes, put on some sunscreen and join us for Strides for Change," says Margaret Miller, MADD Canada's Volunteer National President. "This is a great way to bring people together in their communities for a fun-filled day while making a real difference in the fight to stop impaired driving."

The first two events are being held this Saturday, May 9, in Nipissing, Ontario and Timmins, Ontario. For details on either of these events, or to find other Strides for Change communities across the country, please visit the event web site at

Participants will enjoy a leisurely walk through local parks or trails as well as a number of other activities and attractions before and after the walk. Individuals who live in a community without an event can become virtual walkers and make a charitable donation in support of Strides for Change.

All funds raised are used to support the MADD Canada mission: to stop impaired driving and to support victims of this violent crime.

"Tragically, people are still being killed and injured as a result of impaired driving," Mrs. Miller says. "That is why it is so important that we keep getting our message out there and helping people truly understand the dangers and consequences of impaired driving."

MADD Canada is pleased to recognize the Strides for Change Event Sponsor, Maritime-Ontario Freight Lines Limited. The company has made a three-year commitment of $75,000 through the Graham Munro Charitable Foundation.

"With M-O's support, our local Chapters and Community Leaders are able to reach out to their communities and engage them to raise funds and awareness in support of our mission," says Mrs. Miller.

"Maritime-Ontario Freight Lines Limited is pleased to support the work of MADD Canada and contribute to the efforts to make our roads and our communities safer for everyone," says Doug Munro, President of Maritime-Ontario Freight Lines Limited.
