SEBASTOPOL, CA--(Marketwired - May 8, 2013) - Maker Faire, the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth, to be held on May 18 and 19 at the San Mateo County Event Center is geared up for another spectacular showing of ideas, energy, creativity, and fun that will excite and inspire attendees about the world of making. This year's event will proudly deliver to attendees over 900 maker exhibits; 12 stages throughout the fairgrounds with over 300 presentations (not including musical performances), giving access to the thought leaders and top innovators from the maker movement; awe-inspiring attractions; delectable treats from a large variety of food makers; and much more.
Faire goers can make their plans for visiting the event using the following tools:
Maker Faire Bay Area 2013 Web Site:
Maker Faire Bay Area 2013 Smartphone App: The app can be downloaded at http://app.net/makerfaire for both iPhones and Android phones. The app will give attendees the ability to search for makers and locate on them on a map of the venue as well as view all schedules for presenters, demos, performances, and special attractions.
Attendees will also want to add to their Maker Faire plans activities from some of the event's sponsors. Autodesk, a Goldsmith Sponsor of Maker Faire Bay Area 2013, is back at the event to share their creative software developed just for makers and hobbyists to design their ideas and take them from concept to reality. Autodesk Maker Advocate, Jesse Harrington Au, says, "The hardest part of any project is knowing where to start. Autodesk is at Maker Faire this year to help. We'll be providing hands-on experiences with our creative software -- 123D Catch, 123D Creature, 123D Design and SketchBook -- to help makers of all types discover just how easy it is to take their design from the screen to real life. From high-end, multi-material 3D prints to our brand new CNC tool to making holograms, we can't wait to show attendees what's possible."
Zazzle, also a Goldsmith Sponsor, will be hosting 'Art, Meet Science,' an activity where children and adults of all ages can get creative. Local artists have made custom illustrations for Maker Faire that Zazzle is creating into giant coloring books. With some imagination and all sorts of creative supplies, attendees can make the artwork uniquely their own. Zazzle, a marketplace where people can buy and make anything customized from iPhone cases to shirts, will be demonstrating their made-to-order services with some of their San Francisco-based partners such as Rickshaw Bagsworks, DODOcase, and Dawson Custom Workroom to showcase this amazing art on locally manufactured products.
Chevy will feature their plug-in, hybrid electric vehicle -- the Chevy Volt -- in a special test drive area located in the South Lot. Attendees eager to know what driving a hybrid electric car is like will have their chance at a first-hand experience.
The launch of Maker Faire in the Bay Area in 2006 demonstrated the popularity of making and interest among legions of aspiring makers to participate in hands-on activities and learn new skills at the event. A record 165,000 people attended the two flagship Maker Faires, in the Bay Area and New York, in 2012 with 44% of attendees being first timers at the Bay Area event, and 61% in New York. A family event, the vast majority attend with children. In 2013, over 60 community-driven Mini Maker Faires are expected around the world, including Tokyo and Rome.
