Malibu Family Wines to Host Eighth Annual Harvest & Crush Event to Benefit City Hearts: Kids Say "YES" to the Arts

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - September 16, 2008) - Malibu Family Wines today announced that its Eighth Annual Harvest & Crush Event benefiting City Hearts will take place Sunday, October 12, 2008, from 12:30-3:30 p.m. The setting is the sprawling 1,000-acre Saddlerock Ranch, home to Malibu Family Wines, located at 32111 Mulholland Highway in Malibu, Calif. All proceeds from the event benefit City Hearts: Kids Say "YES" to the Arts, a non-profit organization that transforms the lives of the most disadvantaged and at-risk children through the highest quality arts education, training and experiences.

"Thanks to the generosity and hard work of Lisa and Ron Semler and the Malibu Family Wines staff, this event has grown significantly each year and helps keep City Hearts going," says City Hearts founder and executive director Sherry Jason. "This event makes it possible for us to continue to provide the arts as a positive alternative to gangs, drugs and delinquency programs and inspiration that has helped so many children surpass what they ever thought was possible." Sherry and Bob Jason founded City Hearts in 1984, when they were both criminal defense attorneys, on the belief that the arts are the most powerful tools with which to communicate and to help rehabilitate troubled youth at risk of becoming involved with gangs and drugs. The organization now serves more than 500 children per week, ages five to 18, with free after-school and weekend classes in theater, dance, music, photography and Shakespearean literature.

Some of the City Hearts students will perform at the Harvest & Crush event, and City Hearts' teachers will head up the children's activity area. Children attending the event can have their faces, arms or hands painted, climb the rock wall, jump in the Moon Bounce, decorate cookies or try various craft projects. They can recharge with healthy snacks and juices supplied by Whole Foods while they listen to authors read from the children's books they wrote.

Adults can taste the fine wines produced by Malibu Family Wines, made from vines grown on the property. Wines being served include Semler Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, and Saddlerock Chardonnay and Rosé. Adults can bid on unique items in the silent and live auctions, and everyone can crush grapes and then enjoy a foot bath provided by Mobile Spa.

Guests can enjoy samples of signature dishes donated and served by local restaurants, including Bogie's at the Westlake Village Inn, Café 14, Dandy Don's Ice Cream, Duke's Malibu, Fin's, Geoffrey's Malibu, Holdren's Steak & Seafood, Il Tiramisu, Mediterraneo, MOZ Buddha Lounge, Padri's Ristorante, Saddle Peak Lodge, Sam's by the Beach, Terra, The Four Seasons Westlake Village, The Melting Pot, The Sunset Restaurant, and Zin Bistro Americana.

As people drive into the event, they will see the vines of grapes being grown for the wine, horses, maybe a llama, buffalo or zebra and beautiful scenery. Visitors may recognize the vineyard and unusual rock formations from over 100 movies, commercials and television shows filmed there. The event will have a different look this year, due to the design and event planning services donated by Gensler, one of the leading global interior design, architecture and strategic consulting firms in the U.S.

Actress Jane Seymour, City Hearts Honorary National Chairperson, is expected to attend the celebration. She has been involved with City Hearts programs for over 20 years, teaching and helping to bring attention to the organization.

Tickets ($100 for adults; $50 for children) are limited and this event is expected to sell out. Parking is free of charge. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (310) 899-9191 or visit For more information about City Hearts, visit
