Mall of America® Trend Specialist Reveals Hot Trends for Back to School

Latest Styles Can All Be Found Under One Roof at Mall of America

BLOOMINGTON, MN--(Marketwire - August 15, 2007) - Although we are in the heart of summer, going back to school is the main subject for families across the country. The National Retail Federation announced back to school spending to reach $18.4 billion this year. Families with school-aged children are expected to spend $563.49, up 7 percent from last year.

Traffic to department stores and specialty stores is expected to increase this year. With the majority of shoppers purchasing clothing and accessories, kids will have fun shopping for new and classic trends.

"Jeans will be the backbone of most back to school wardrobes this year," said Sara Rogers, trend specialist for Mall of America. "There are plenty to choose from such as high waisted, skinny legged, wide legged, trouser styles, classic and straight legged with the back pocket embellishment as the detail du jour."

Kids and teens will sport plenty of new styles this season, with gray as the hot color. Girls will rock puffy and lantern sleeves, empire waist shirts and patterns. Guys will wear graphic tees, embellished denim and layers. Look for animal print, patent leather and metallic accessories to spruce up any ensemble without depleting a budget. Graphics will also be hot, showing up on tees, button-ups, hoodies and sneakers.

A destination for more than 40 million visitors annually, Mall of America has more than 100 fashion-forward stores carrying the latest in clothing, accessories and shoes especially for teens. Mall of America is home to 11 out of 12 top retailers for girls, according to "Women's Wear Daily," and is a fashion mecca for guys, according to a recent issue of "DNR News."
