ManagedMethods Announces Cloud Access Monitor

New Approach to Cloud Access Security Starts With Visibility Into Shadow IT

BOULDER, CO--(Marketwired - December 03, 2015) -

Summary

  • ManagedMethods delivers unique Cloud Access Security for underserved SMB & Mid-Market
  • Cloud Access Monitor delivers visibility into cloud app usage and potential risks
  • Designed with flexibility to add control and policy

ManagedMethods, a new contender in the cloud access security space, today announced its latest release of Cloud Access Monitor, a software solution that gives companies visibility into the usage and potential risk associated with using both sanctioned and unsanctioned cloud applications. The software's flexible architecture allows for deployment on premises, in the Cloud or a hybrid of both.

More than 80 percent of employees admit to using non-approved SaaS applications in their jobs according to Frost and Sullivan. A 2015 report from the Cloud Security Alliance found only eight-percent of companies know the scope of Shadow IT at their organizations and an overwhelming 72-percent of companies surveyed said they did not know the scope of Shadow IT but want to.

"When it comes to the Cloud, you can't control what you don't know exists," said Al Aghili, ManagedMethods' Founder & CTO. "Cloud Access Monitor gives companies the 24/7 visibility they need to embrace the cloud with less risk. When you have complete visibility into the use of cloud apps, business leaders can then formulate a proper strategy to control and enforce policy."

Cloud Access Monitor's passive listening of network traffic gives IT a non-intrusive way to see:

  • Which cloud applications are in use
  • Who is using them
  • How often they are used
  • What data is being exchanged with the Cloud
  • Potential risk associated with the use of those cloud apps

Deep packet capture is a key component of Cloud Access Monitor that goes beyond log entries to allow granular analysis that goes deeper than logs can. Cloud Access Monitor's 24/7 real time monitoring can also watch for the movement of secure information such as Social Security numbers, credit card numbers or other personally identifiable information (PII and PCI), helping companies with compliance regulations.

"Many existing Cloud Access Control vendors have focused heavily on building extensive control capabilities, largely through inline proxies," said Adrian Sanabria, a Senior Security Analyst at 451 Research. "ManagedMethods, on the other hand, has focused on developing SaaS security features businesses appear to be most interested in (discovery, visibility and analytics) using low friction, non-disruptive approaches. This approach is affordable, leverages existing investments and is easy to deploy."

Founded in late 2013 by tech veterans Charlie Sander and Al Aghili, ManagedMethods has focused its R&D efforts on the growing security challenges associated with cloud applications and Shadow IT. The company launched an early version of Cloud Access Monitor in April and also engaged in partnerships with Blue Coat, Gigamon, and Ixia this year.

Cloud Access Monitor is now generally available from ManagedMethods and a network of value-added solutions providers. For more information, contact sales@managedmethods.com.
