Mandalay Media Group Puts Tournament.com Domain Up for Sale

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Jan. 27, 2011) - Tournament.com owner Mandalay Media Group today announced that they are selling the domain after deciding not to re-enter the skill gaming arena.

In 2007 the site hosted pay-to-enter First Person Shooter tournaments under license from Valve operating their titles Counter-Strike and Half-Life. On launch it received huge press and was featured internationally in many major gaming publications. Tournament.com was also reaching additional agreements with other major publishers and discussed a partnership with a US based Plc before deciding to close the site down due to financial pressures.

Richard Skelhorn and Alex Holt, Co-Founders of Tournament.com, said:

"Tournament.com was an exciting opportunity and something that we really wanted to become a success. We operated with international player liquidity and were actively running pay-to-enter games every few seconds. We still believe there is a market for pay-to-enter video game tournaments, however due to the investment required in infrastructure and content licensing it is something that we have decided not to re-approach.

Our business has restructured and changed direction and since the closure of Tournament.com and we are happy to gain the experience but accept it is something that requires much more investment than we are able to provide.

We receive requests from players every day to restart the service, however it is not going to be possible for us. We believe that unless a content owner like EA approach it themselves and therefore remove the license fee element we will not see a third party operator again on the scale Tournament.com achieved.

We are ready to sell the domain now along with the .co.uk and move on. We believe there will be many interested parties from games publishers to poker sites who can do something great with the domain. The word 'Tournament' is very descriptive and generates over 5 million Google searches per month. It could be developed into a very powerful brand in the right hands. We will be reviewing sensible offers that are received via the contact form on http://www.tournament.com."
