Manhattan Center's Hammerstein Ballroom to Host Alt-J on September 14 at 8:00 PM

English Indie Rockers' First World Tour Arrives in New York City

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - September 04, 2013) -  Hailing from Leeds, England, indie rock band Alt-J comes to Manhattan Center's Hammerstein Ballroom, located at 311 West 34th Street between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, on Saturday, September 14 at 8:00 pm. It's their debut New York City appearance on their inaugural world tour.

Guitarist/bassist Gwil Sainsbury, guitarist/vocalist Joe Newman, keyboardist Gus Unger-Hamilton and drummer Thom Green developed a precise and unique brand of alternative pop that draws on poignant folk verses, crushing synths, smart hip hop syncopations and tight vocal harmonies -- all of which are displayed on their handsome 2012 debut album, An Awesome Wave.

The band's take on postmodern pop mines the best elements from folk-rock, garage rock, dub-pop, indie rock, vintage cinema scores, and a cappella harmony before constructing layered, angular arrangements. The result is a sound as unique as the band's name -- the mathematical symbol for change -- which is created by holding down the Alt key and "J" key on a Mac computer keyboard.
