Manitobans Impacted by 2011 Flood Invited to Public Open Houses in Brandon, Souris

WINNIPEG, MANITOBA--(Marketwire - June 15, 2012) - The 2011 Manitoba Flood Review Task Force invites Manitobans affected by last year's record flooding to attend one of two public open houses being held next week in Brandon and Souris.

The open houses -- scheduled for Tuesday, June 19 at Brandon's Keystone Centre and Thursday, June 21 at the Souris Glenwood Memorial Complex -- are the first in a series of public open houses the Flood Review Task Force will hold in Manitoba communities affected by the flood.

"The 2011 flood caused tremendous hardship for many Westman families, First Nations, businesses and farmers," said Task Force chairperson David Farlinger. "The open houses in Brandon and Souris are an important part of our public consultations and will give us the opportunity to hear directly from Manitobans."

Citizens attending the open houses will be able to meet with Task Force members, provide feedback on a wide range of issues related to last year's flood, and learn more about the Task Force's mandate and factors that contributed to 2011's record flooding.

Apart from participating in the open houses, flood-affected Manitobans can also share input via the Task Force web site at www.2011manitobafloodreviewtaskforce.ca. Beginning next week, open house materials will also be made available online for those unable to attend an open house in person.

The 2011 Manitoba Flood Review Task Force was appointed by the Province of Manitoba to independently examine a range of matters related to last year's historic flood including preparedness and response, flood forecasting, public communications, operation of flood control infrastructure and flood protection.

Additional detail about the Task Force's scope of work, opportunities for public participation, progress updates and past press releases are available on the Task Force web site.
