Manor Labs, Powered by Spigit, Wins the Altimeter Group's "Open Leadership Award"

The City of Manor, Texas Receives the Open Leadership Award for Excellence in Creating a Positive Governmental Impact

PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwire - October 14, 2010) -  At the recently held Open Leadership Awards, Manor Labs was recognized by the Altimeter Group for its outstanding achievements in open government. The purpose-built idea management platform, powered by Spigit, allows the city of Manor, Texas to successfully engage the more than 6,000 citizens in a collaborative environment dedicated to addressing and resolving local government issues. Through the use of effective crowdsourcing capabilities and social technologies that are embedded within the Spigit platform, Manor Labs creates an environment of increased civic transparency and open communication.

The Open Leadership Awards, sponsored by the Altimeter Group, was created in an effort to recognize organizations or agencies that are successfully using social technologies to create impactful change. All applicants were asked to demonstrate the following three criteria for consideration: leadership, impact and lessons learned. For the collection and review of proposals, the Altimeter Group chose Spigit's intelligent idea management platform. With the tool, candidates had the option of submitting proposals under eleven different designated industries, ranging from "Health Care" to "Non-Profit" and "Government."

"We are very pleased to announce Manor Labs as the winner of this year's government Open Leadership Award," says Altimeter Group founder and social media and technology expert, Charlene Li. "To be open is difficult, and the City of Manor did an incredible job of harnessing social technologies to break down traditional barriers that are generally associated with government and create a collaborative, transparent outlet for citizens to engage."

In addition to receiving The Open Leadership Award, the city of Manor has been recognized by a number of other associations for its open government initiatives. Accomplishments achieved through the Manor Labs initiative have been highlighted in publications such as Inc. Magazine and the White House blog.

"We're honored to be a recipient of this year's Open Leadership award," said Dustin Haisler, CIO of Manor, Texas. "Being open in government is not easy, and is much more involved than publishing legislation online. True openness means engaging and empowering citizens through social technologies. We used Spigit as the social platform to leverage the civic surplus of our citizens. We hope this award will inspire other municipalities to embrace open leadership to empower citizens to do great things for their respective agencies."
