Many Americans Undergoing Plastic Surgery Following Massive Weight Loss

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jun 8, 2015) - As more and more Americans take on the fight against the bulge, many Americans are opting for plastic surgery following their weight loss. The American Society of Plastic Surgery reports that there is a direct correlation between weight loss and an increase in plastic surgery procedures for breast lifts, tummy tucks, arm and thigh lifts. These procedures grew at their fastest rate in years and so did surgery for weight loss.

Dr. Rick Rosen, a Connecticut Plastic Surgeon says, "we have seen a dramatic increase in procedures where hanging skin is an issue for the patient following massive weight loss." Dr. Rosen is considered one of the best plastic surgeons in Connecticut, winning the prestigious "Best Doc Connecticut" award the last 5 years running. Dr. Rosen is reporting a significant increase in tummy tuck, breast lift and mommy makeover procedures. He also reports that both male and female patients are having these procedures performed and he is also reporting an increase in male breast reduction at his Connecticut Plastic Surgery center.

For many, hanging skin is the last obstacle to overcome after the long journey of massive weight loss. This hanging skin for many is just a bad reminder of what was, and they are anxious to have it removed.

The American Society of Plastic Surgery is reporting that tummy tuck and thigh lift procedures have increased by 70 percent since 2000 and 5 percent from 2013-2014. They also report that arm lift procedures are up by 4,000 percent from 2000-2014.

According to the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, over 180,000 people underwent weight loss surgery in 2013 and the trend continues to rise. The society estimates that 1 in 5 bariatric patients will have to undergo plastic surgery. Although insurance companies cover most of bariatric surgery, most only cover a portion of plastic surgery procedures.

Dr. Rosen says, "Patients that have body contouring procedures performed following massive weight loss typically have amazing results." Dr. Rosen recommends if you are considering body contouring following massive weight loss to contact a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon that specializes in body contouring procedures.
