Map-Enabled Online Writing Contest on HubPages Begins

HubPages Marks the Spot, Beginning Today, Allows Writers to Share Their Favorite Local Highlights, With More Than $4,000 in Cash Prizes

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - September 1, 2010) -  HubPages, the most rewarding place online to publish, discover and interact with people who share your interests, is launching today its sixth online writing contest, the HubPages Marks the Spot contest. The contest allows participants to share information and insights about their favorite local restaurants, shops, museums, and other highlights, and embed helpful maps. During the month of September, participants will be eligible to win over $4,000 in cash prizes given out daily and weekly.

Open to both new and existing writers on the site, the contest is the perfect way for "local experts" to share tips about the best spots and attractions in their neck of the woods, and to even earn ongoing royalties for years to come via automatically-placed online ads from which the authors receive revenue. Authors writing about their favorite sandwich joints, bowling alleys, kid-friendly museums, and even the best places to find a clean public bathroom have a chance to win daily and weekly cash prizes, and will continue to earn their authors via online ads for years.

HubPages is pleased to present its panel of judges, prominent local interest writers and bloggers:

  • Philip Ferrato, Contributing Editor, Curbed SF
  • Myryah Irby, Community Contributor, The Local, The New York Times
  • John Loscalzo aka Homer Fink, Brooklyn Heights Blog
  • David Topping, Editor-in-Chief, Torontoist
  • James & Alex Turnbull, Google Sightseeing

The judges' panel will choose the winner of the weekly Best Hub contest ($100), as well as the Grand Prize winner ($500).

"We're all very excited about kicking off our sixth contest focusing on writers' favorite local highlights," said Jason Menayan, Director of Marketing for HubPages. "We're all experts on what makes our hometowns great. This contest allows anyone to share useful tips and advice about the best their city or town has to offer. Our new Map Capsule is an excellent way to put writers' favorite spots in a geographical context on the same page as their opinions and suggestions."

HubPages Marks the Spot is sponsored by Outside.in, the leading provider of hyperlocal news and information. Outside.in shows consumers neighborhood news and information from local bloggers and mainstream media on hundreds of trusted news sites.
