Mar-Bal, Inc. Introduces the Fire-Gard™ Product Family

Industry Leader in Thermoset Products Announces Fire Resistant Product Family

CHAGRIN FALLS, OH--(Marketwire - February 13, 2009) - Mar-Bal, Inc., a Chagrin Falls, Ohio-based leader in the thermoset industry, introduces the Fire-Gard™ Product Family. This new line of products includes Mar-Bal's current fire resistant wastebaskets, branded as Waste-Safe™.

An industry leader for almost 40 years, Mar-Bal, operates manufacturing facilities in Ohio, Virginia and Missouri. The new Fire-Gard family of products will be manufactured in Mar-Bal's Chagrin Falls, Ohio and Cuba, Missouri facilities.

Waste-Safe™ Fire Resistant Wastebaskets are UL listed and are an essential product for college residential halls, hotels, hospitals, offices, classrooms and laboratories. Made from thermoset material with fiberglass reinforcement, the wastebaskets are available in three (3) sizes and five (5) different colors; and can be imprinted with permanent silk screening to customize the product. Additionally, the corrosion and rust proof, seamless construction will not leak like metal, is easy-to-clean and provides for a low cost solution compared to metal wastebaskets.

There are 18,000,000 students enrolled in 4,100 colleges and universities in the U.S. Approximately 20 students die in campus fires annually due to the careless disposal of smoking materials, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

"Mar-Bal is working with the Center for Campus Fire Safety to raise awareness of students, parents, and administrators about the importance of campus fire safety and the steps they can take to prevent the needless loss of life," says Stan Pilat, Director of Sales & Marketing. "Ron Poff, our new Manager of New Business Development, will lead our effort."

Mar-Bal's new product family provides a stylish but fire-safe waste product that addresses the issue of improper disposal of materials that can result in fire.

"We have successfully introduced the value of this product with several major universities," continues Mr. Pilat. Michigan State, Penn State, and Purdue University have all standardized on the Waste-Safe fire resistant wastebaskets.

"We have been using round metal trash receptacles in our student rooms," says Sue Petrisin, Administrative Associate, Construction, Maintenance and Interior Design Michigan State University. "Over time, they not only dent easily, they also rust and leave a metal stain ring on the floor. The Mar-Bal wastebaskets, on the other hand, provide a higher level of fire safety and blend better with the school's room furnishings. In addition, they reduce preventative maintenance costs caused by rusty and bent cans. As we replace the round trash cans, the Mar-Bal wastebasket is our preferred product," Ms. Petrisin adds.

Mar-Bal will introduce additional products under the Fire-Gard family later this year. These products will further serve the hotel industry as well as colleges and universities.
