Marc-Boris St-Maurice in court for marijuana possession

Marc-Boris St-Maurice's marijuana possession case to be decided this morning, admissibility of evidence called into play over the fact that police joined a political party to gather it Attention: Assignment Editor, News Editor, Photo Editor, Government/Political Affairs Editor MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Aug. 25, 2005) - Marc-Boris St-Maurice is to appear today, Thursday August 25th 2005 at 9:30 am before Judge André Perreault from the Court of Quebec in Montreal, 1 Notre-Dame Street East where a decision will be rendered on a motion to exclude evidence.

In March 2004 Marc-Boris St-Maurice was arrested for possession of marijuana at the offices of the Bloc-Pot party; also know as "Chez Marijane". In order to gain entry into "Chez Marijane" police joined the Bloc Pot party and proceeded to gather evidence that led to his arrest.

Council for the defence, Julius Grey, contends that joining a political party to investigate its members infringes upon constitutional rights and is not an acceptable practice for law enforcement officers. Mr. Grey has moved to exclude the evidence on these grounds. All evidence has been heard and arguments made, it now comes down to a final decision that will determine the fate of this case.

Mr. St-Maurice and Mr. Grey will be available for questions at 9:00 am in the atrium of the Palais de Justice de Montréal on the third floor. A statement will also be issued following the decision. IN: JUSTICE, POLITICS
