March of Dimes Canada: Istvan and Barbara Haas Assistive Devices Initiative

QUEBEC CITY, QUEBEC--(Marketwired - Oct. 17, 2014) - To help Quebec residents with physical disabilities, March of Dimes Canada, through the Istvan and Barbara Haas Assistive Devices and Vehicle Retrofit Fund, will provide $10,000 to successful candidates to acquire or modify a personal assistive, mechanical or technical device that enables an individual with a physical disability to access or participate in a recreational pursuit.

Eligible applicants will be residents of Quebec, with a physical disability from accident/illness that impedes their mobility and substantially restricts their activities of daily living and participation in the community. They should also have limited means to meet the often expensive recreational equipment they require.

Applicants will be considered based on the criteria identified below.

The individual requires an assistive, mechanical, or technical device / retrofit in order to achieve one or more of the following:

  • enable access to / participation in a recreational or leisure activity
  • improve access to / participate in community activities
  • improve safety while participating in recreational or leisure activities
  • contribute to the welfare of their community

Preference will be given to devices / equipment that are supplied and supported in Canada (with particular reference to warranty and repair).
