Marianopolis College Launches Capital Fundraising Campaign

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - April 5, 2006) - The official public launch of the capital campaign Moving Hearts and Minds / Vers de nouveaux horizons took place today at 11:15 AM at the future location of the College, at 4873 Westmount Avenue. The ambitious campaign plans to raise $10 MN to help defray the costs of constructing a new gymnasium, renovating the College's new facility and to establish a $2 MN endowment fund within the Marianopolis Millennium Foundation.

In 2002, the Board of Directors of the College approved the decision to move the school from its current location at 3880 Cote des Neiges, due to overcrowding and the need to upgrade facilities. Marianopolis is scheduled to start the 2007-2008 academic year in the new building once the construction and renovations are completed. The building, built in 1926 to house the L'Institut Pedagogique and the Notre Dame Ladies' College (from which evolved Marianopolis College), became the Mother House for the Congregation of Notre Dame (CND) in 1988. The CND are now welcoming Marianopolis College back onto the campus.

Former and current students, parents, faculty and Montreal philanthropists attended the launch, which began with a performance by music student Wen Sei. Testimonials were provided by Nicholas Kasirer, dean of the Faculty of Law, McGill University, and David Gameroff, both alumni of the College. The highlight of the morning was the announcement of the largest donation ever received by the College from an individual, from alumna and former parent Francoise Beaubien Vien, to support the Learning Centre in the new building. As well, the Congregation of Notre Dame announced their support to the Marianopolis campaign - a $2MN contribution to assist with the building project. Sister Francoise Boisvert, Director General of Marianopolis College, Jill de Villafranca, Chair of the Marianopolis Millennium Foundation, and campaign co-chairs Josee Gravel and John Archer introduced the campaign priorities and announced that over $3,500,000 has already been contributed to the campaign.
