After Thursday's Bell Market Commentary

On Thursday, sluggish retail sales and comments by Fed chief Bernanke that business growth will slow sent the markets down to a lower close. A lift in financial shares late in the day lifted many other stock sectors and helped shave the losses. The Nasdaq had its biggest two-day percentage drop in five years. At one point the Dow fell 200 points. The dollar was lower against most other major currencies. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note fell to 4.27 percent from 4.30 percent Gold rose $4 to a record close of $837.50 an ounce. Light, sweet crude fell 91 cents to $95.46 a barrel. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 33.73 points, or 0.25 percent, to close at 13,266.29. The Nasdaq Composite Index fell 52.76 points, or 1.92 percent, to close at 2,696.00. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 0.85 of a point, or 0.06 percent, to close at 1,474.77. The Russell 2000 index rose 4.94, or 0.64 percent, to 780.90.
