After Friday's Bell Market Commentary

On Friday, the unemployment rate dropped to 4.4%, the lowest level in more than 5 years. The Institute for Supply Management reported the nonmanufacturing index rose to 57.1% from 52.9% in September, a stronger than expected reading. The prices paid index fell to 51.9% from 56.7%. Oil production concerns overshadowed a drop in the nation's unemployment rate sending the major markets down to a lower close. Light, sweet crude rose $1.26 to $59.14 a barrel on concerns over disruptions in Iran and Nigeria. The dollar was mixed against other major currencies, while gold prices rose. The Dow Jones industrial average registered its first six consecutive day drop since June 2005. The Dow closed down 32.50, or 0.27 percent, at 11,986.04, the average's first close under 12,000 since Oct. 19. The Nasdaq composite index fell 3.23, or 0.14 percent, to 2,330.79. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 3.04, or 0.22 percent, to 1,364.30. The Russell 2000 index rose 2.60, or 0.35 percent, to 752.73.
