MarketLive® Performance Index™ Vol.17 Reveals Dramatic Increase in Year-Over-Year Revenue With 20 Percent Spike

Report Details Shopping Behavior and Offers a Look Ahead

PETALUMA, CA--(Marketwire - Feb 24, 2012) - MarketLive, Inc., the leading provider of enterprise-class eCommerce technology and services, today released the MarketLive Performance Index Volume 17, Q4 2011: A Look Ahead at 2012. The quarterly report examines Q4 performance data from more than 100 retail sites.

Online retailers saw significant increases in traffic, conversions, and revenue in 2011 according to the report. Findings include:

1) 20 percent increase in revenue
2) 12 percent increase in qualified visitors
3) 13 percent increase in total orders
4) 7 percent increase in average order value
5) 4.3 percent increase in conversion
6) -3 percent cart abandonment rate

The lift in sales as well as the improved conversion and lowered cart abandonment rates for MarketLive merchants is a result of driving more qualified visits. Compelling merchandizing and promotions significantly increased the volume of orders and average order value. While an uplift in the fourth quarter was expected with holiday sales and a recovering economy, these findings set the stage for improved growth in 2012.

According to MarketLive founder and chairman, Ken Burke, "With nearly one in every ten discretionary dollar being spent online, retailers should be reassessing their total commerce strategy in 2012. Successful merchants should identify and focus on three to five key goals for their consumer across multiple touch points and ensure those goals are consistently being met."

The report warns retailers against chasing customers across the digital landscape without a strategic approach, such as launching ineffective mobile sites, integrating blindly into social networks or developing content for the sake of content. It also reminds retailers that "it's always about the consumer."
