Markham CA Student Captures Canadian Gold Medal

18 Ontario Students Earn Honours in Canada-Wide CA Exam

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 2, 2011) - Juliana Yuen of Markham captured the Canadian and Ontario Gold Medals as the top writer of the Uniform Evaluation (UFE) in the country. A total of 18 Ontario CA students placed on the prestigious 52-member National Honour Roll, making 2011 a very good year for this province. Overall, 1,135 Ontario CA students and a total of 2,858 across the country have successfully passed the UFE, one of the world's most challenging professional entry examinations.

The UFE, written in September, is a national three-day evaluation that assesses competencies including essential knowledge, professional judgment, ethics and the ability to communicate. The UFE is an important component of the CA qualification program, which includes prescribed education, practical experience and examination requirements. Only those who complete this entire program successfully are entitled to use the internationally recognized designation of Chartered Accountant, a profession known for superior financial expertise, strategic thinking, business insight and leadership.

Juliana Yuen articles with Ernst & Young LLP in Toronto and has a Master of Accounting degree from Waterloo University. "I pursued a CA career because the learning opportunities and flexibility appealed to me. I was so surprised to win the Gold Medal, but very honoured and happy to receive the news," said Yuen. "I haven't made any concrete goals for my future career yet - I'm still trying to learn as much as I can at Ernst & Young and I just hope to explore new opportunities as they come in the future!"
