Marks Paneth & Shron LLP Taps Former IBM Director of Tax to Help Launch Firm's New Services for Emerging Growth Companies and Entrepreneurs

IBM Veteran Jeanne P. Goulet, CPA, to Spearhead Expanded Offerings That Support Both Domestic and Global Emerging Growth Companies and Entrepreneurs Through the Complete Life Cycle of Their Ventures


NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - September 21, 2010) -  Marks Paneth & Shron LLP (MP&S), a leading New York area accounting firm, announced that Jeanne P. Goulet, CPA, a tax specialist and IBM veteran with more than 25 years of experience in industry and public accounting, has joined MP&S as a senior tax consultant to launch the firm's new Services for Emerging Growth Companies and Entrepreneurs.

Ms. Goulet, who specializes in tax issues related to e-commerce and the Internet including software development, global services and cross-border transactions; as well as international tax matters including worldwide tax planning and transfer pricing, will hold an instrumental role in bringing MP&S' new Services for Emerging Growth Companies and Entrepreneurs to market.

Under the leadership of Steven Eliach, JD, LLM, Principal-in-Charge of Tax at MP&S, Ms. Goulet along with fellow MP&S tax colleagues Solomon Packer, Paul Bercovici, and Alyssa Forslund, will provide individualized, integrated counsel to entrepreneurs and their businesses from the formation stage to either the liquidating event as an acquisition, merger, IPO or continuation as a profitable business enterprise.

Steven Eliach, JD, LLM, a lawyer and the Principal-in-Charge of the Tax practice at Marks Paneth & Shron. Mr. Eliach has over 20 years of experience specializing in taxation for the real estate industry, estate planning and income taxation of closely held companies. During his career, Mr. Eliach has devised complex real estate planning strategies using joint ventures, options and like kind exchanges. He has developed sophisticated estate planning capabilities using techniques such as Grantor Retained Annuity Trusts, Charitable Remainder Trusts and Family Partnerships. In addition, Mr. Eliach is frequently called upon to structure complex business transactions involving mergers, sales, exchanges, partnership formation, liquidation, and planning for S Corporations.

Jeanne Goulet, CPA spent the majority of her professional career with IBM, ultimately serving as head of tax of IBM Credit Corporation and as an IBM tax director. In those roles, she managed the tax function, developed and implemented tax strategy on a global basis, and participated with industry groups both in the US and abroad to develop tax policy for the information technology industry, the Internet and E-commerce. She participated in work groups with the US Treasury Department and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In addition, she provided tax support to a number of IBM's business units including the Software Group, Global Services, and e-Business Solutions.

Ms. Goulet has also served as vice president of finance and planning for a solar module manufacturing start-up. She was responsible for business development, fund raising for both equity and debt, preparing grant applications and meeting with government representatives on both the federal and state level.

Solomon Packer, CPA, JD, LLM, is a senior consultant at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP in the area of international taxation. Mr. Packer is a former senior international tax partner of a Big 4 firm where he spent most of his career. At MP&S, Mr. Packer advises foreign persons and corporations on how to do business in the US and, conversely, advises US corporations on how to conduct business overseas in order to effectively reduce their worldwide tax exposure. His areas of specialization include international structuring, mergers and acquisitions; tax issues related to foreign ownership of US real estate; tax planning for multinational corporations; taxation of shipping companies; and international estate tax planning. 

Paul Bercovici, LL.B., is a Director at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP. Previously, Mr. Bercovici spent many years at Big 4 firms in Canada and New York. He specializes in international tax matters including advising US individuals on the income tax implications associated with working and living outside of the United States. He also advises foreign individuals on the income tax implications associated with working and living in the US. Further, he assists foreign and domestic corporations with structuring their US and offshore operations.

Alyssa Forslund, JD, is a manager at Marks Paneth & Shron LLP. Ms. Forslund provides tax consulting services on the federal and state levels. She focuses on serving emerging growth companies -- primarily technology companies. In addition, Ms. Forslund works on federal, state and local tax controversy cases. She assists law firms with bringing taxpayers into compliance under the Voluntary Disclosure Program (VDP) of the Internal Revenue Service. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Ms. Forslund worked at a New York City law firm specializing in litigation.

More About Jeanne Goulet
Ms. Goulet is a frequent speaker on corporate tax and business advisory topics. She has spoken at a variety of venues including George Washington University's International Tax Program, the International Fiscal Association (2001 Annual Global Congress), Harvard Law School 's International Tax Program and Society for Law and Tax Policy, the Institute for International Research and The Conference Board.
