Marrero Dentist Adds Soft-Tissue Lasers to Treat Gum Disease, Oral Sores

MARRERO, LA--(Marketwired - August 27, 2015) - Dr. CJ Landry, a leading Marrero dental implant dentist, has introduced laser technology to treat patients with gum disease or other oral health issues.

Gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss and has been connected to serious illnesses like heart disease and diabetes. Soft-tissue lasers are a new, noninvasive way to treat gum disease and set the stage for a quick recovery.

“These lasers allow us to treat patients with gum disease in a noninvasive way,” Dr. Landry said. “This is a huge advancement for patients because the only option in the past would have been traditional gum surgery, which required stitches and sutures and a long recovery period.”

Gum disease is so prevalent that it will affect about 75 percent of the population. The problem occurs when bacteria infects the gums and creates a periodontal pocket between the gums and the teeth. The soft-tissue laser cleans out the periodontal pocket and allows for the gums and teeth to re-attach naturally -- without stitches or sutures. Dr. Landry can use the laser with only topical anesthesia.

In addition to treating gum disease, the soft-tissue laser can treat blisters or cold sores in the mouth or on the lips.

“We have found that by using the laser on fever blisters or cold sores, we can increase the healing time from seven to 10 days to two to three days,” Dr. Landry said. ”If treated early enough, we can actually prevent the fever blister from developing at all.”

Dr. Landry opened Lapalco Family Dental in July 1982 at 5421 Lapalco Blvd., Suite H. He provides general dentistry services, as well as restorative dentistry, implant dentistry and short-term orthodontic solutions. Individual services include dental implants, implant-supported dentures, CEREC same-day crowns, teeth whitening, Six Month Smiles and ClearCorrect.

Dr. Landry has worked to implement the latest technology into his practice. He uses digital X-rays and a 3-D cone beam scanner. Dr. Landry uses the three-dimensional scans to map out dental implant procedures. The scan allows Dr. Landry to view patients’ jawbone density, nerves in the mouth and even the smallest blood vessels.

Dr. Landry grew up in New Orleans’ West Bank but lived in Germany for four years as a child. He attended West Jefferson High School and then received a football scholarship from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La., where he earned his undergraduate degree in chemistry. After graduating from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry, he opened a practice with a classmate in 1982 and has been practicing at that location ever since. His business partner opened his own practice in 1987.

Dr. Landry has completed a residency program in dental implants and received advanced training in rotary endodontics and orthodontics.

Lapalco Family Dental works to give patients of all ages the care they need. The Marrero dental office offers patient financing programs CareCredit and Springstone and subscribes to LocalMed.
