Martha Stewart Poncho Pattern Now Online

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - March 13, 2005) -

Bernat, a Spinrite brand, offers pattern free at web site

Martha Stewart's first appearance after her release from Alderson
federal prison camp has set the knitting and crocheting community abuzz
with activity. Responding to unprecedented customer demand, Bernat®
today offered the poncho pattern free at our web site at www.bernat.com.
While Bernat® Galaxy is a yarn that looks very similar to the one used
in Martha's poncho, and is sold at the commissary in Alderson federal
prison camp to the crocheting and knitting inmates, Bernat® cannot
confirm the actual yarn her poncho was made from.

"Sporting a fashionable and jaunty poncho, handmade for her by a friend
in prison, Martha looked fabulous," said Sara Arblaster, Marketing
Manager, Bernat®. "With the recent resurgence of knitting and
crocheting, Martha certainly stayed in sync with the trends in the
'outside' world and hasn't missed a beat. Kudos to her."

Since the first images of a beaming Martha wearing her crocheted poncho
were broadcast around the world, Bernat® has been inundated with calls
and emails requesting a poncho pattern like the domestic diva's. Due to
this unprecedented demand, we picked up our hooks and quickly wrote a
poncho pattern using our Bernat® Galaxy yarn, a Spinrite Yarns brand.
The pattern is free to download on the Bernat® web site in both a knit
and crochet version. Our cool poncho is fast and easy to crochet and
uses Bernat® Galaxy yarn, which looks very similar to the one used in
Martha's poncho.

"Ponchos are a hot accessory item and are the perfect project for both
beginner and experienced knitters and crocheters," said Ms. Arblaster.
"Thanks to Martha for keeping the trend going."

The Bernat® web site also offers numerous free patterns, yarn
information and also a simple to use store locator. As one of the
leading yarn companies in North America, Bernat® offers not only a
full range of yarns, but also hip, modern knit and crochet patterns.
According to the Crafty Yarn Council of America
(www.craftyarncouncil.com) 53 million U.S. women currently knit and
crochet -- an increase of 51 per cent in the past 10 years.
