Martin Sheen, Paul Haggis, James Franco, AnnaLynne McCord, Josh Brolin and More Helped Raise Nearly $100,000 for Haiti

Held at PEARS on the Avenue and Sponsored By TOROmagazine.com, the Second Annual Fundraiser for Artists for Peace and Justice Raised Money and the Roof!

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 13, 2010) - In an incredible show of support for the people of Haiti, Hollywood's biggest stars came out to play and help raise nearly $100,000 at last night's fundraiser for Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ)—a charity devoted to changing the lives of the children of Haiti by providing them with food, water, medical care and education.

Held at the TORO After Dark Lounge, the evening kicked off with an unforgettable live-art red carpet led by celebrated pop artist Peter Tunney. Stars including Martin Sheen, Paul Haggis, Josh Brolin, James Franco, AnnaLynne McCord, K'naan, Maria Bello and Kathleen Robertson donned APJ smocks and painted, wrote and coloured messages of hope, love and support on banners that will be displayed in schools supported by APJ in Haiti.

Inside the venue, the atmosphere was just as electric! Hundreds of guests mingled with the stars while enjoying a live jazz performance by Sophie Milman and sipping on SKYY Vodka martinis, Stella Artois and FIJI Water. Things quieted down when the four co-hosts—APJ founder Paul Haggis and board members James Franco, AnnaLynne McCord and Maria Bello—shared their personal stories about their experiences in Haiti and thanked the crowd for their generous support of the cause.

To raise funds for APJ, the guests took part in an energetic live auction. Items that were up on the auction block included the following:

  • a VIP TIFF package that included an IT Lounge gift bag full of products such as fall 2010 Fila apparel, Dagmar jewelry, a Kobo eReader and an Esprit watch; Acura car service; tickets to festival premieres; a necklace and coins from Diamond Cutters International
  • tickets to attend the premiere and after-party for Paul Haggis' latest film, The Next Three Days, starring Russell Crowe, Olivia Wilde and Liam Neeson. This package also included stunning red-carpet ready jewelry from Tacori
  • a table for 10 at the prestigious Hollywood Awards Gala in L.A.
  • the Alice + Olivia dress that AnnaLynne McCord wore at the event

Most memorable APJ red-carpet moment?: Peter Tunney making Martin Sheen an offer he couldn't refuse: "Show me your underwear and I'll donate $1000 to APJ!" (They were Ellen DeGeneres Show boxer briefs, by the way).
