MARY ANN LAPOINTE SURGES TO QUARTER FINALS AT US WOMEN'S MID-AMATEUR

Attention: Sports Editor, Travel/Tourism Editor RICHMOND, TEXAS--(CCNMatthews - Sept. 13, 2005) - Mary Ann Lapointe of Georgetown, Ont. moved on to the quarter finals at the US Women's Mid-Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday.

Lapointe, a four time Canadian Amateur Champion, defeated Kelly Schaub of Greeley, Colorado, 6 and 4 during her round of 16 match to move on to the quarter finals. Earlier in the day Lapointe, 45, defeated Kareen Markle, Eagle, Idaho, 4 and 2.

The only other Canadian who qualified for match play was Ivy Steinberg of Cedar Valley, Ont. who was defeated by Laura Coble of Augusta, Georgia 3 and 2.

The championship is for women amateurs age 25 and over and concludes on Thursday. Tomorrow will feature quarter final and semi-final action.
