The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation Donates $100,000 to Domestic Violence Shelters Across Canada

Donations Will Help 10 Women's Shelters Across the Country

MISSISSAUGA, ON--(Marketwired - December 30, 2015) - 1 in 3 Canadian women will be affected by domestic violence at some point in their lives. The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation (MKACF) is able to make a difference in their lives -- and the lives of their children -- by awarding Shelter Grants of $10,000 to 10 provinces and territories across the country. These grants will help combat domestic violence, educate local communities, provide much needed shelter and rehabilitation for survivors, especially in a time when donations are down and the need for services is on the rise.

"With one in three women being affected by domestic violence at some point in their lives, the Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation's mission to support and help improve the lives of those women and children affected across the country is now more important than ever," said Lynda Rose, a Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation board member and General Manager of Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. "Our Shelter Grant program has been, and continues to be, a top priority for the Foundation. As well, in our quest to enrich the lives of women around the world, one of the ways we are doing this is through our commitment to victims of domestic violence."

Mary Kay has long recognized the importance of educating women about domestic violence and keeping them safe from it. The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation is supported by hundreds of Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultants, Mary Kay Cosmetics Ltd. and is an important part of the legacy of Mary Kay Ash.

Each year, grants are awarded to domestic violence shelters in provinces across the Country. Approximately 70 domestic violence shelters applied for funding this year.

Applications for the 2016 Shelter Grants program will be available Aug. 15 through October 31, 2016. Please visit marykay.ca for additional information and for the full list of 2015 shelter grant recipients.

About The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation

The Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation was established in Canada in 2001, and its mission is two-fold: to support women living with cancer through the Look Good…Feel Better® program and to help end violence against women by providing grants to women's shelters and community outreach programs. Since then, it has awarded $1,241,100 to shelters and programs addressing domestic violence and over $735,000 to help women going through cancer treatment throughout Canada.
