OTTAWA--(Marketwire - Sep 13, 2012) - Max Keeping will open this year's AdoptWalk at Britannia Park. Mr. Keeping is a well-loved Ottawa personality and philanthropist with a keen interest in adoption and foster care issues.
"Please help us by contributing to AdoptWalk -- and please come out and walk with us on Saturday, September 29 at Britannia Park! It will be a great family day with activities and a lunch following the walk," says Keeping.
AdoptWalk 2012, organized by the Adoption Council of Canada (ACC), is a fundraiser and awareness-building event to support adoption. This year, the ACC is partnering with The Children's Bridge Foundation (CBF) to hold the event in Ottawa.
AdoptWalk 2012 takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It includes a 5-kilometre walk around Britannia Park, situated on the Ottawa River (entrance at the corner of Carling and Greenview). There will be children's entertainment and games for all ages. All are welcome to join us. Please register online at www.adoptwalk.ca and bring your family and friends!
"We are delighted that Max has agreed to open AdoptWalk for us. Max has long been a champion of children and youth. The money we raise from the walk will help us support adoptive families, adoptees and children waiting for permanent families. There are about 30,000 waiting children in Canada alone," says Laura Eggertson, ACC President.
CBF is an Ottawa-based charity that assists abandoned and orphaned children in countries from which Canadians adopt.
"The funds will provide medical support and teachers to support education," says Cathy Murphy, a CFB board member.

ADOPTWALK 2012 in OTTAWA
This is the Adoption Council of Canada's fourth annual AdoptWalk, but the first one we will hold in the nation's capital. This year, we are partnering with the Children's Bridge Foundation, an Ottawa-based charity started in 2003 by adoptive parents to support health and education program for abandoned and orphaned children in developing countries from which Canadians adopt.
Donations raised for AdoptWalk 2012 will be divided between the Adoption Council of Canada (www.adoption.ca) and the Children's Bridge Foundation (www.cbfoundation.com).
We are seeking sponsorships as well as in-kind contributions. The money we raise will help the ACC support programs here in Canada to:
- Help find families for children waiting in foster care.
- Train children and youth in foster care, those who have been adopted or those who have aged out of care without a family, to speak out and advocate for permanency.
- Support adoptive families.
- Provide information about adoption to those beginning their adoption journeys or those seeking information about search and reunion.
- All donations will receive tax support.
- Our charitable number is: Adoption Council of Canada: 13803 1596 RR0001
Sponsors will be featured on our website (www.adoption.ca) and the AdoptWalk website (www.adoptwalk.ca), on t-shirts, promotional materials, and can have banners and tables at the event. Major sponsors will be given an opportunity to address the walkers and participants. We are aiming at about 350 people for the walk.
Please help us by contributing to AdoptWalk -- and please come out and walk with us on September 29 at Britannia Bay Park! It will be a great family day with activities and a lunch following the walk. Register now, at www.adoptwalk.ca.

The Adoption Council of Canada (ACC)
We are the only national non-profit organization in Canada devoted to providing resources and support about adoption to adoptees, adoptive families, and birth families. We have been operating as a largely volunteer-driven organization since 1989, and incorporated as a federal charity in 1991. Our members include families who have adopted domestically and internationally, birth parents, adoption professionals, and adoptees.
Currently, we are focused on raising awareness about, and reducing the number of children in Canada who are in foster care and in need of permanent families. There are about 30,000 waiting children in Canada.
Children's Bridge Foundation (CBF)
The money raised will also go to help the Children's Bridge Foundation support children and youth in developing countries by:
- Providing medical support (including the treatment of HIV) and nutritional programs;
- Providing surgeries and rehabilitation programs for older children with special medical needs;
- Providing teachers to support education and learning.
- All donations will receive tax support.
