Interview With Kimberlyn Mains, Director, Cloud Technology M&A Integration, Adobe Systems

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - August 18, 2016) - Kimberlyn Mains, Director, Cloud Technology M&A Integration at Adobe Systems, recently spoke with marcus evans about topics to be covered at the upcoming Post Merger & Acquisition Integration Conference:

What are important factors to maximizing value in an acquisition?

KM: Given the recent uptick in mega deals this year across the tech industry, I believe there will be a renewed focus on integration and execution in order to maximize the value and returns on the billion dollar investments. Having a clear definition of the value and why you're doing the deal coupled with a strong go-to- market strategy is the foundation for building and executing a successful integration. It's important to have a clear structure in place to enable quick decision making. This is especially true when it comes to making the decisions that impact the customer and the organisational decisions as people are the catalyst to successful integration.

What are common mistakes made during integration?

KM: Without proper planning and focus, deals can go wrong in a number of ways. Two keys to successful integration:

  • Set the Tone early: The tone for success is set during due diligence and although not the primary focus of due diligence; operational and integration planning should start during this early phase of the deal anchored around the key value drivers.
  • Time is of the essence: Decisions that impact the customer, org structure and people decisions should be made quickly. I often see companies defer these changes in order to minimize disruption to customers, teams and productivity. This tends to drag the disruption on for several months while losing momentum in the market, key talent and customers along the way. Time is of the essence. So tackling challenges that may create disjointed customer experiences head-on while balancing swift integration with thoughtful planning and communication will help ensure the value drivers for the deal are achieved.

Kimberlyn Mains is the Director of Cloud Technology, Strategic Planning and Operations at Adobe Systems. Kim is responsible for leading M&A integration, strategic planning, portfolio management and business operations for Adobe's Cloud Platform. She leads M&A integration for the Cloud Technology organization for all acquisitions from early due diligence and go-to-market strategy through to full integration.

Prior to Adobe, Kim spent several years at Chevron Corporation holding various IT positions including Chevron's IT Global Consulting Organization and the IT integration of Chevron and Texaco.

Kim is a graduate of Washington State University where she received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration Management Information Systems and Electronic Commerce.
