The Container Security Initiative (CSI) is a joint effort by the U.S. and host nations to identify and pre-screen containers that may pose a threat at the point of departure before being loaded for travel to the U.S. . Piraeus, Greece recently joined CSI bringing the total participating large ports to 20. A similar agreement is in place with Canada to facilitate rail traffic.

Fourteen Integrated Border Enforcement teams have been put together with members from Customs & Border Protection (CBP), Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as well as lower levels of law enforcement. Targeting cross-border smuggling between Canada and the U.S., these teams cover the entire length of our northern border. Abatix Corporation (PINKSHEETS: ABIX) remained even at $6.00 in mid-day trading Wednesday solidly in the middle of their 52 week high and low of $7.59 and $5.50 respectively. Abatix provides decontamination equipment, Emergency kits, Detection and Respiratory equipment as well as various handbooks for the homeland security sector, as well as being a nationally recognized supplier of fire & water restoration, construction and safety products.

Checkpoint Software Tech (NASDAQ: CHKP) stocks were up to $20.93 a gain of $0.02 or 0.10% on a trading volume of 735,059. The rise puts stock barely above the 52 week low of $20.00. Via Checkpoint's SmartDefence services, users of Check Point's VPN-1 NGX products are protected from a new zero hour unpatched memory corruption vulnerability in Microsoft Excel. The Microsoft Security Advisory 947563, issued Jan 15/08 affects users of Excel 2003 Service Pack 2, Excel Viewer 2003, Excel 2000 & 2002 as well as Excel 2004 for Mac.

Osi Systems Inc (NASDAQ: OSIS) on a volume of 17,800, stocks fell to $21.76, a drop of -0.17 ( -3.12%) to sit just above the 52 week low of $19.64. Rapiscan Systems, the security division of OSI Systems, announced they have received a $2 million contract for its 500 series baggage and parcel inspection systems. The system will be used for the upcoming Olympic & Paralympics games in Beijing China.
