McAllister Place Hosts Saint John's First IWK Radiothon

SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK--(Marketwire - Feb. 22, 2012) - McAllister Place believes in contributing to the health and wellness of the community. The IWK Radiothon will broadcast live on three MBS stations - K100, 98.9 Big John FM and Goodtime Oldies 93 CFBC - from 6am to 8pm on February 23rd and 24th. All three stations will have hosts live on location from McAllister Place.

"We are proud and very excited to be doing our part to help improve care for patients and families who rely on the IWK," says Tanya McCluskey-Kelly, Director of Marketing for McAllister Place. "This is our cities first IWK Radiothon and has been an amazing experience thanks to a very supportive community."

Listeners will meet patients like Riley, who was air lifted to the IWK and diagnosed with a rare and potentially fatal condition called Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH). For four months, Riley endured immunosuppressive therapy, chemotherapy, and periods of isolation to avoid infection. He also underwent countless blood transfusions, bone marrow extractions, lumbar punctures and had a portacath inserted. Listeners will hear how he's doing now by tuning in.

"We're excited to be partnering with McAllister Place and MBS in the Saint John area and sharing incredible stories about local children who are receiving world-class care at the IWK," says Jennifer Gillivan, President & CEO of the IWK Health Centre Foundation. "We know listeners will demonstrate their strong connection with the IWK by giving with all of their heart on February 23rd and 24th."

Last year Saint John children spent nearly 900 days as inpatients at the IWK and made more than 1,600 outpatient visits. All money raised will go toward the purchase of a fleet of anesthesia machines, located inside the pediatric operating rooms and for diagnostic imaging.

"The IWK is a vital resource for Saint John families and it is a privilege to be able to help raise funds for excellence in care," says Geoff Walsh, station manager with MBS. "We have incredibly loyal listeners and we are confident they will make our first Radiothon a huge success."
