McCain's QuicNet(TM) Central Software Helps Stop Illegal Red Light Preemptive Technology

The City of Carlsbad Utilizes McCain ITS Solutions to Alleviate Criminal Transportation Activities

VISTA, CA--(Marketwire - Apr 25, 2012) - McCain Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of intelligent transportation systems, traffic control equipment and parking guidance solutions, today announced the employment of their QuicNet central control technology by the City of Carlsbad, to identify the illicit use of red light preemptive technology.

News broke on April 3, 2012, regarding the capture of a criminal that was exploiting government preemptive equipment. Normally employed by emergency vehicles, preemptive technology turns red traffic signals green in urgent situations. Criminal offenders utilize illegal versions of this technology to manipulate red lights in their favor, turning red lights green as they travel.

Using an Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS), QuicNet central software by McCain, the City was able to identify how, when and where the perpetration was taking place. QuicNet central control software's primary designation is to manage entire traffic systems from a single location. The City of Carlsbad utilizes the technology to link and manage 55 city traffic lights, which helped alert traffic engineers to the signal timing discrepancies the preemptive device was creating.

"Our QuicNet technology not only offers extensive signal management, it also affords the ability to recall and review archived data for trends. In this case, the City of Carlsbad was able to investigate inconsistencies because they could track activities through collected statistics, data and video. Criminals using illegal technologies will be caught when cities employ these kinds of advanced ITS solutions," said Luke Baker, technical specialist for McCain Inc.

Central traffic control software offers a multitude of benefits; including a single user interface for viewing and managing multiple ITS solutions across any given number of intersections. However, it was the technology's capacity for identifying trends and recalling archived timing logs that allowed the City of Carlsbad to track and review the culprit's actions.

"We're always pleased to see our customers using our software solutions to their full capacity," Baker continued, "This is a great example of a city that's getting the most of what McCain's ITS solutions have to offer."

With over 175 systems operating worldwide, QuicNet software is the premier central control solution. The software combines timing record features, centralized document management, tailored reporting with time-of-day and special event timing parameters, and traffic responsive. The system is fully scalable, making future upgrades, additions, and overhauls hassle free.
