McCallion to Bring Regional Leaders Together for May 7 Greater Toronto Region Economic Summit

SUMMIT CO-CHAIR AND ADVISORY COMMITTEE ANNOUNCE REGIONAL SUMMIT THAT WILL ADDRESS ECONOMIC CRISIS, PRODUCE IMMEDIATE ACTION AND DEFINE THE ECONOMIC FUTURE OF THE REGION MAYOR HAZEL MCCALLION TO ADDRESS WHY THE REGION NEEDS TO WORK TOGETHER TO SPUR IMMEDIATE ACTION

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 27, 2009) -

What: A media briefing session to announce the first-ever Greater Toronto
Region (GTR) Economic Summit. The briefing will be held at Queen's
Park following a planning session with Summit Co-Chairs and advisory
committee members.

The GTR Economic Summit will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2009,
and will involve a group of business, government, labour, academic
and institutional leaders. The GTR municipalities will work
together - as one - to develop a plan to revitalize the region's
economy and develop specific, collaborative action to ensure the
region's future prosperity.

Why: Communities across the Greater Toronto Region are going through a
profound transformation, and are among the Canadian municipalities
hardest hit by the current global economic crisis. Families are
losing jobs, businesses are shutting their doors, and seniors are
worried about their life savings and pensions. This financial hub of
Canada is home to the nation's financial services sector, many
corporate headquarters, large manufacturers and businesses of all
types and sizes.

With the current economic backdrop as it is, there is a need and
sense of urgency for leaders in the region to act as one region and
to respond with an action plan that can be implemented immediately.

Who: Hazel McCallion, Mayor of Mississauga, Summit Co-Chair
Summit Advisory Committee
