McDonald's and Ronald McDonald House Charities Donate to Philippines Disaster Relief Efforts

OAK BROOK, IL--(Marketwired - Nov 13, 2013) - McDonald's Corporation (NYSE: MCD) today announced it will contribute to Typhoon Haiyan disaster relief efforts with a donation of $300,000 USD to the International Federation of the Red Cross. In addition, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) will donate $100,000 USD to RMHC Philippines to help provide food and water for children and families in the Eastern Visayas Region.

"Our deepest sympathy goes out to all the families who've lost loved ones, including our employees, customers and suppliers and those who have been impacted by this devastation," said McDonald's President and Chief Executive Officer Don Thompson. "The destruction experienced in the Philippines is overwhelming, and we want to be there to help when our communities need us most."

"RMHC is directing funds to our local Chapter in the Philippines," said J.C. Gonzalez-Mendez, president and CEO of RMHC. "The Chapter has the infrastructure and partnerships on the ground to provide for the immediate and critical needs of children and families."

RMHC Philippines will direct the funds to their Bigay Tulong (Give Aid) efforts designed to support disaster relief operations. The donation will help the RMHC Chapter to purchase, pack and transport goods, like rice and water, to towns in the affected areas, including Tacloban, Samar, Ormoc, Iloilo and Northern Cebu. RMHC Philippines will also work with other groups in the wake of this tragic disaster.

McDonald's has 376 restaurants in the Philippines. As of this date, the vast majority remain open; approximately six were damaged in Visayas and one restaurant in Tacloban was destroyed. McDonald's licensees in the Philippines are also assisting with the local relief efforts by raising funds, packing supplies and providing food to emergency workers and those affected by this disaster.
