Today McDonald's restaurants across Canada will celebrate their 16th McHappy Day, the company's longest-running and best-known national fundraising event. As part of this one-day fundraising initiative, local McDonald's restaurants across the country will donate $1.00 from every Big Mac® sandwich, McMuffin® sandwich and Happy Meal® sold to local children's charities across Canada, helping to support children in need. In addition, many restaurants held fundraising events leading up to McHappy Day to lend additional support.

"At McDonald's Canada, we have a long history of giving back to others in our local communities," said John Betts, President, McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited. "On McHappy Day, we bring together our employees, our customers, our suppliers and special guests to raise money for local organizations that are dedicated to improving the lives of children. We thank all those individuals and organizations that come out to show their support on this very important day."

This year marks the 16th McHappy Day in the history of McDonald's Canada. Since its inception in 1977, McHappy Day has raised more than $26 million for RMHC, the Ronald McDonald House® program and hundreds of other local children's charities.

As part of the McHappy Day celebrations, McDonald's franchisees and employees are joined by a variety of special guests, sports and media personalities, politicians and entertainers as they roll up their sleeves to work behind the counter and show their support in McDonald's restaurants in cities and towns across the country.

"I'm amazed at how McHappy Day has evolved as a Canadian tradition since its inception in 1977," said George A. Cohon, Founder, McDonald's Restaurants of Canada Limited and McDonald's Russia. "As we celebrate the 16th edition of this great event, the spirit of McHappy Day remains the same - every McDonald's restaurant across Canada coming together to support children in need."
