McGuinty Hiding Slush Fund Report? Five Days Late and Counting

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 5, 2007) - NDP MPP Michael Prue wants to know what happened to the promised status report on the McGuinty Government's slush fund.

"Ontario families have a right to know where this money ended up. What does Dalton McGuinty have to hide?" said Prue.

On August 1, the McGuinty Government promised that a report on how organizations that received millions in dubious year-end grants were spending their money would be delivered by the end of August. August has come and gone but the report has not appeared.

Ontario's Auditor criticized the McGuinty government for handing out millions in grants with no accountability and no paperwork. The Ontario Cricket Association asked for $150,000 and received $1 million. The "Iranian-Canadian Community Centre" received $200,000 from the McGuinty Government just three weeks after registering as a charity. What's worse - the group wasn't registered to help New Canadians, it was registered as an Animal Protection Charity and the address on the registration form is the office of one David Farmani - President of the Richmond Hill Provincial Liberals.

"Dalton McGuinty clearly hasn't learned a thing from this scandal. Ontario families deserve better," said Prue.
