McGuinty's Broken Promises Leave Young Ontarians in the Red

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 15, 2007) - In their efforts to promote McGuinty's record of broken promises, the Ontario Young Liberals launched a 'Paint it Red' campaign. What they don't get is more and more young Ontarians are already living in the red thanks to four years of let-downs from Dalton McGuinty.

McGuinty promised to keep tuition affordable, but students are struggling under massive increases and debt.

FACT: McGuinty's tuition increases will see average student debt increase to $28,000 after a four-year degree.

McGuinty promised to eliminate classroom fees for apprenticeship programs, but young Ontarians are still paying.

FACT: Students are still paying an average of $400 for classroom fees.

McGuinty promised to raise the minimum wage, but now he's forcing young Ontarians to wait three long years as he sits on his own cushy $40,000 pay raise.

FACT: McGuinty's $40,000 raise is nearly double the annual salary of a young Ontarian earning minimum wage.

McGuinty promised to restore real rent controls to make life more affordable, but then passed legislation removing those controls when an apartment becomes vacant.

FACT: He promised to build 20,000 affordable housing units, but at the current rate it will take him 34 years to make it happen.

Dalton McGuinty is out of touch with the challenges facing young Ontarians. And so are the Ontario Young Liberals. Their broken promises have made it harder for young Ontarians to get by.
