McGuinty's Job Record This Week-3 Plant Closures

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 13, 2007) - While Dalton McGuinty pretends there's no jobs crisis - the job losses keep coming. This week alone three more manufacturers shut down:

- Columbia Forest Products in Hearst Ontario announced it would shut down its particleboard plant in Hearst indefinitely - eliminating 83 jobs.

- Amcan Castings filed for bankruptcy protection yesterday - one day after the company closed its Burlington manufacturing plant on Harvester Road, eliminating 75 jobs.

- Otaco Seating Company Ltd., an Orillia company in business for 100 years, ceased operations at 9:45 a.m. last Wednesday, giving only 20 minutes notice to the 47 workers who lost their livelihoods.

Ontario has lost 175,000 well-paying, community-sustaining manufacturing jobs since August 2004. That's more than 15 per cent of total manufacturing jobs in the province. 40,000 manufacturing jobs have been lost in the past year alone.

Auto, steel and forest products have been particularly hard hit. In the automotive sector, Canada ran an automotive trade deficit in 2006 for the first time in 18 years.
