McKiggan Hebert Announces Winner of Scholarship to Raise Awareness of Dangers of Distracted Driving

Nicole Havers Won $1,000 Scholarship and Created Awareness About the Dangers of Distracted Driving

HALIFAX, NS--(Marketwired - July 07, 2015) - McKiggan Herbert Lawyers made the decision to award a $1,000 scholarship to a Canadian student whom both demonstrates excellence in academics and shows a commitment to ending distracted driving. The decision to host this contest is due, in part, to the partnership that McKiggan Herbert has with EndDD. This organization is committed to "preserving life and promoting safety on a large scale through advocacy, education and action."

After many entries, and much deliberation, the 2015 winner of the McKiggan Herbert End Distracted Driving $1,000 Scholarship is Nicole Havers. Nicole is from British Columbia and a student at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. Ms. Herbert is an English major who has big plans for the future -- plans that she does not want derailed due to a distracted driving mistake.

Nicole's essay helped her win the scholarship contest because it showed just how prevalent the practice of distracted driving is, and how many people engage in the behavior without realizing it. Everyone who read her essay saw how important the topic was for her, and could feel how personal the issue is for her. Nicole learned a lot about the topic as she wrote her essay and feels the experience was educational for her as well.

The McKiggan Herbert personal injury law firm is excited about this scholarship and how it can positively impact the community. Lawyer John McKiggan stated, about this contest: "As lawyers who regularly work with victims of car accidents, we know all too well about the dangers of distracted driving. To help more young people understand how dangerous distracted driving can be, my partner Brian Hebert and I wanted to create more awareness of this issue while also helping to support one student's dreams of higher education."

The scholarship contest was such a resounding success that it will be repeated next year -- giving another group of students the chance to participate. More information about the renewed "End Distracted Driving Scholarship" can be found here at the law firm's website.
